Founded in 1933 by René Lacoste the worlds number one tennis player who at the time found sports attire restrictive and uncomfotable, he came up with an idea, that did not just transform sports but men's fashion, forever.
Some believe that he came up with the idea of the iconic shirt based on the old English polo players shirt (hence the name "polo shirt") emulated by John Brookes calling his item the tennis shirt at this time René was nicknamed the Alligator by both fans and the media alike, although the reasons are speculative some claiming it was his playing style on court others pointing to his famously large nose.
Holding this nickname with pride René embroidered the reptile on his blazer, this was true personal branding before the concept even existed.
